Kees Vissers

Kees is currently a Research Fellow at UC Berkeley and he is working with Xilinx Research. He was a visiting industrial fellow at Carnegie Mellon University in 1987 and at UC Berkeley in 1999. Throughout his career he has consistently been at the forefront of innovation with a strong emphasis on quantifying the benefits of programmble solutions in complete system designs.

In 2002 he joined Chameleon Systems, Inc. as Chief Technology Officer, where he accelerated the development of both the software tools and of the architecture of coarse-grain reconfigurable systems. In 2000, as Principal Architect and Director of Architecture, he helped start Trimedia Technologies, Inc. He also worked at Philips Research in Eindhoven, The Netherlands. There he initiated the early work on Video Signal Processors that consisted of a crossbar-connected network of reconfigurable ALUs.

He has served as a program committee member of ICCD, Micro, DAC, DATE and the Codes-ISSS conferences. He organized and presented a tutorial on embedded system design at the 2000 Design Automation Conference in close cooperation with Jan Rabaey, Alberto Sangiovanni Vincentelli, Bart Kienhuis and Diederick Verkest. He presented the tutorial at the 2002 Design Automation Conference on new computing platforms for embedded systems, together with Joerg Henkel, Wallid Najjar and Frank Vahid. He has invented, elaborated and proliferated the y-chart design for system design, including the design space exploration. He has written numerous papers on his research, holds 3 patents and has filed for 9 more, and continues to innovate in an industrial research setting.

Kees Vissers graduated from Delft University in the Netherlands in 1980.

Dr. M. Balakrishnan

Dr. Balakrishnan is an Expert of CAD for VLSI and Computer Architecture, has more than 25 years of research experience in this area. His other research areas are High-level synthesis, High-level design & modeling, FPGA based design & design tools, Hardware-software co-design. M. Balakrishnan is currently a Professor and Head of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at I.I.T. Delhi. He has held visiting positions in University of Guelph, Canada, University of Syracuse, USA, University of Kiel, Germany and University of Dortmund, Germany

Dr. Balakrishnan obtained his B.E. (Hons.) in Electronics & Electrical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani, India with the 1st rank in 1977 and Ph.D from IIT Delhi in 1985. He has published 45 papers in leading international journals like IEEE Trans. on CAD and ACM Trans, on Design Automation and conferences including DAC, ICCAD, CODES and ASP-DAC.

He is also a reviewer for many leading journals including IEEE Trans. on CAD, IEEE Trans. on VLSI, ACM Trans, on Design Automation and conferences including DAC, ODES, ISSS.

Dr. Balakrishnan has been a recipient of the NRDC invention award and also he was the Program Chair of VLSI Design 1995, an International conference held in Jan 1995 in New Delhi, India. He has been a key member of the VDTT group and was involved in starting the very successfully industry sponsored interdisciplinary program on VLSI Design, Tools and Technology.

Dr. Balakrishnan worked as a Scientist in CARE, IIT Delhi from 1977 to 1985 where he was involved in designing and implementing real-time DSP systems. He is also an expert member on the Technology Committee of the Department of Posts, Govt. of India.
